ALBANY, Oregon - When a young boy went to see his doctor complaining of constantly hearing a faint popping noise he did not expect to be told he had spiders living in his ear.
Imagine this fella in your ear...!

It was not long before the sound in the nine-year-old's head started to become earache, so his mother took him to a GP.
Diane Courtney told the doctor in their home town of Albany, Oregon, that her son was hearing noises like "Rice Krispies".

And after a short examination, Jesse Courtney literally could not believe his ears when the doc told him that a pair of eight-legged creepy crawlies had set up home in his head.

"They were walking on my eardrums," Jesse said, explaining the popping noise.

When Dr David Irvine flushed out the boy's left ear canal, the first spider came out dead.

But the other little blighter needed a second dousing before it came out - still alive.

Jesse was given the spiders - now both dead - as a souvenir and has taken them to school to show his pals. (AP)

No longer just a restaurant for people to munch a burger, McDonald's in Hong Kong has recently become a shelter for some down on their luck.

People for whom falling asleep has become a much dreaded nightly battle might be suffering from sleep disorder, said the Taiwan Society of Sleep Medicine yesterday, disclosing that 4.8 million people in Taiwan have difficulty sleeping at night.
據台灣睡眠醫學會調查發現，國內有四百八十萬人有失眠症狀，夜夜與周公搏鬥，專家認為這些人當中可能有些已罹患睡眠問題。

A TSSM study shows that more and more people in Taiwan are troubled by lack of sleep, with 24.8 percent reporting some type of sleep disorder, and 11.5 percent suffering from chronic insomnia, which translates into more than one in every 10 people having serious difficulties sleeping on a regular basis.

President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) announced yesterday that he would pardon a man known as the "rice bomber" who was imprisoned for planting more than a dozen bombs around Taipei in protest over the opening of the island's rice market to foreign imports.
Chen's announcement was seen as a response to public opinion and a resolution passed by the Legislature on Friday calling on him to free Yang Ru-men, 29.

CHICAGO -- Chien-Ming Wang's best game of the season was probably last month in Seattle, when he lost a perfect game in the eighth after retiring the first 22 hitters.
"That game was pretty good," Yankees manager Joe Torre said, shaking his head. "Why do you have to remind me about those things?"
Maybe Wang's stuff was a touch off his Seattle best on Wednesday in Chicago, but his performance was more meaningful and just as dominating. It's almost midnight as Ryo settles into a reclining chair for the night, a can of tea and a pack of cigarettes at his side, a construction job awaiting him in the morning.
For the time being, this cramped cubicle at an Internet cafe with its TV and flickering PC monitor is home.
Ryo, who refused to give his full name, is part of what experts believe is a new social strata in Japan poor, young people who live out of cheap, 24-hour Internet cafes to escape the streets.
Though there are no reliable numbers, experts warn a growing number of younger Japanese are sleeping in cheap Net cafes like Ichigo, where Ryo, who is 30, spends five nights a week. He stays with a friend on weekends.

4 charged with terror plot at JFK airport

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Four men have been charged with conspiring to blow up jet fuel supply tanks and pipelines at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Homeland Security sources said there is no current threat at the airport and the attack as planned was "not technically feasible."
The alleged plot did not target airplane flights, officials said.
